Horton a success?(demon review)
Written by Danny Allen
Wednesday, 26 March 2008
 Finally!

For the first time, Hollywood has made a whimsical, witty, feature-length version of Dr. Seuss that's neither overblown nor smutty nor emotionally hollow. This film stands out among a sea of second rated CGI films that arent worth the time asked for to bare them.

What is the secret? To stay faithful to the look and authority-questioning spirit of the original. That recipe would seem to be about as complicated as cheese sandwich, but "Horton Hears a Who!" is the first picture to carry it off since Seuss died in 1991.

Horton's a 5* Marvel - Official Review
Written by Danny Allen
Friday, 14 March 2008
The general consensus in Hollywood is that if it's animated, it's gold. The sales figures certainly drive that point home, but obviously sales cannot account for content. The myriad of animated films released in the past decade has ranged from intolerable dribble (see The Wild) to first-rate storytelling (see Ratatouille). Almost always reliant upon a significant amount of star power, thinly veiled moral themes, and a bombardment of pop culture allusions, the animated film market could best be described as shallow. Yet, amongst its many downfalls, the genre retains its value by occasionally presenting a story worth telling. And what better way to elevate the medium than through the work of famed fabler Dr. Seuss?

Jonny Five is ALIVE

Finally, after years of waiting, Short Circuit is getting the remake treatment! The original was based around cute robot 'Number 5', a cyborg originally built by the military as a powerful weapon, but which developed a conscience and affable personality after being struck by lightning.

Variety is reporting that S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, the geniuses who wrote the first two Short Circuit films, will write the remake for Dimension Films, which, according to producer David Foster, will be similar in theme to the original, but it will factor in advances in technology.

Written by Danny Allen
Friday, 28 March 2008
The Dark Knight was previewed at industry trade show ShoWest yesterday, with attendees getting a glimpse at the movie's opening sequence in its entirety.

"I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you stranger," Heath Ledger's Joker says during the dramatic bank robbery scene that kicks off the film. The late actor's chilling performance as the Clown Prince of Crime will remain fully intact, the Associated Press reports. And director Chris Nolan has not deviated from his original vision in light of Ledger's death.

Actor Harrison Ford feared he would not complete an early installment of the Indiana Jones franchise - until he was saved by medics working for a football team. The 65-year-old suffered a chronic back injury while riding an elephant in Sri Lanka during filming on Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom in 1984.

But Ford failed to recover from his injury and was forced to seek medical treatment after returning to the U.K.

McKellen on Gandalf's Return
Written by Danny Allen
Thursday, 27 March 2008
Will The Hobbit happen? Still unclear. Just when New Line and Peter Jackson settled their legal dispute, the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien filed suit over profits from the LOTR movies. Tolkien's heirs are seeking a court order to terminate any rights the studio has to The Hobbit. While that litigation is still pending, it hasn't stopped Sir Ian McKellen from feeling confident about reprising his role as Gandalf.

Knight's Stuggle for Power
Written by Danny Allen
Sunday, 09 March 2008

According to actor Christian Bale and director Christopher Nolan, this summer's The Dark Knight will find Batman struggling with the blowback from his one-man war on crime.

Batman Begins ended with a warning from Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) to Batman (Bale) about "escalation" in crime and villainy now that there's a man in a batsuit prowling Gotham City. "This escalation has now meant that he feels more of a duty to continue," Bale told the New York Times.

Bale added, "And now you have not just a young man in pain attempting to find some kind of an answer, you have somebody who actually has power, who is burdened by that power, and is having to recognize the difference between attaining that power and holding on to it."
